Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, the Minister of Defense, has filed a lawsuit for defamation, insults, and other offenses. This legal action comes in response to accusations made against him by activists alleging his involvement in a fraudulent deal. The news was reported by the Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB) on Saturday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the complaint by General Coulibaly is a reaction to publications that surfaced at the end of October on social networks. These publications claimed that he had engaged in a fraudulent transaction with a certain Ibrahima Maïga. The deal, allegedly worth over a billion, was for the acquisition of 30 pick-ups for the army. General Coulibaly, asserting that these accusations are baseless and seriously damaging to his reputation and honor, has proceeded to file a civil lawsuit in response to these claims.
