BOBO-DIOULASSO — Burkina Faso’s national police recently seized 9,720 cartridges of expired shisha products and drugs in a significant crackdown on urban crime, as reported by the country’s newspapers on Wednesday. The operations, part of a broader effort to tackle crime in urban areas, involved the cooperation of the local population and led to the discovery of smuggled goods in Bobo-Dioulasso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the success of the operation was due in part to community tips that led to the location of a storehouse containing 810 boxes of expired shisha products. These items were reportedly smuggled into the country using public transport systems. Additionally, a separate seizure involved women of foreign nationality who concealed drugs in handbags and clothing bags. Le Pays, a private daily, noted that the total value of the seized goods exceeds 90 million FCFA. The National Police expressed gratitude to citizens for their collaboration and encouraged continued vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities.
In a different vein, L’Observateur Paalga, another prominent daily, highlighted the challenges in diagnosing typhoid fever, a common rainy season illness exacerbated by poor sanitation and delayed medical consultations due to self-medication. The newspaper emphasized the importance of vaccination and adherence to hygiene standards as preventive measures against the disease.
