Ouagadougou: The Court of Auditors officially inaugurated on Tuesday a space dedicated to children, intended to accommodate them and their nannies during working hours, with the aim of allowing their mothers to be more efficient at work.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the first president of the Court of Auditors, Latin Poda, described the inauguration of the children's space as a dual effort to support both maternal and professional responsibilities within the institution.
Mr. Poda highlighted that previously, mothers often had to carry their babies into the office or leave toddlers in the care of nannies in the corridors of the Court's premises. This new space is designed to alleviate the conflict between professional duties and parental obligations faced by working mothers.
He further explained that the initiative aligns with governmental priorities to promote equal opportunities, enhance public employee well-being, value family as a cornerstone of social cohesion, and build robust human capital for a resilient nation. The nursery aims to reduce absenteeism and lateness and foster female leadership and community cohesion.
The Director General of Family and Child Affairs, Wendkouni Benjamin Ouedraogo, praised the Court of Auditors for its child protection efforts, noting that the newly inaugurated facility provides a secure environment conducive to child welfare. He emphasized that this infrastructure allows families to thrive and enables mothers to engage more fully in their professional roles.
Alphonse Nare, coordinator of the gender unit at the Court of Auditors, expressed gratitude for the institution's commitment to fostering the development of future generations, noting the space will accommodate babies and caregivers during working hours. Mr. Ouedraogo also expressed hope that such initiatives would extend to other public services.
