Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, led a pivotal Council of Ministers meeting, making crucial decisions regarding the nation’s infrastructure and security. Government Spokesperson Pingdwend© Gilbert Ouedraogo briefed the press, announcing the adoption of significant reports and decisions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Council declared the construction of a Science and Technology Training and Research Unit (UFR/ST) and a university residence at Dori University Center as urgent public utility projects. Minister of Higher Education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano, stated that although funding was secured in 2020, construction has been delayed due to site unavailability, despite ongoing negotiations.
On the security front, the Council approved recruitment plans for the National Police. Minister of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana, detailed plans to recruit 20 police commissioners and 60 police officers through professional competitive exams by 2025. Additionally, 10 commissioners and 10 police officers with specific qualifications will be recruited through direct competitions. A total of 2,000 non-commissioned officers, including 50 women, will be integrated into the national police, with quotas for Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, Assistant Security Volunteers, and women from the Defense and Security Forces.
The Council also addressed infrastructure regulation under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Accessibility. A new bill was adopted to end the monopoly of the National Laboratory of Buildings and Public Works. Minister Adama Luc Sorgo highlighted plans to open laboratory activities to the private sector, institute technical approval for laboratory work, and establish a regulatory body for construction and public works laboratories.
