OUAGADOUGOU – Women from the Charles de Gaulle Pediatric University Hospital Center (CHUP-CDG) in Ouagadougou took a significant step in supporting Burkina Faso’s economic revival by participating in a conference focused on community entrepreneurship on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The event, organized by the women’s association of CHUP-CDG and the agency for the promotion of community entrepreneurship (APEC), underscored the vital role of women in the nation’s economic strategies.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference was part of a broader initiative by Burkina Faso’s transitional authorities to foster economic growth through endogenous funding of major projects in agriculture, livestock, agri-food, textiles, and mining. The initiative aims to generate over one million direct and three million indirect jobs within two years, striving for food self-sufficiency.
Wadba Marie Denise, president of the AFC, highlighted the enthusiastic participation of the women at CHUP-CDG as a testament to their commitment to the presidential initiative. She urged both female and male staff of the hospital to actively participate in the program. Clémence Zoundi, director of APEC, lauded the dynamism of these women and outlined the program’s goals, emphasizing the creation of job opportunities and sustainable economic development.
Cyrille Priscille Kaboret/Ouédraogo, general director of CHUP-CDG, also participated in the shareholding initiative, praising APEC officials for their engagement with the hospital’s women, which helps them grasp and contribute to community entrepreneurship. The event also highlighted the financial aspects of the initiative, with each share priced at 10,000 FCFA and membership fees at 5,000 FCFA. APEC aims to raise 100 billion FCFA for the establishment of community businesses.
