OUAGADOUGOU — The Superior Council of Communication (CSC) in Burkina Faso has issued a formal inquiry to ‘Faridah Cosmétique’ for promoting skin lightening products on social media, as reported by AIB.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the CSC’s action follows a hearing with the promoter of ‘Faridah Cosmétique’ who has been ordered to remove all related publications from social media platforms. This measure comes after an acknowledgment of violating national advertising laws which prohibit the promotion of lightening cosmetic products across all media. The regulator’s press release from July 15, 2024, states that the promoter admitted to the infractions and has committed to ceasing such promotions in the future.
This regulatory action was facilitated by the collaboration with the Central Cybercrime Brigade, highlighting the government’s commitment to enforcing advertising standards as stipulated in Article 41 of Law No. 080-2015/CNT. The CSC continues to monitor media content closely to ensure compliance with Burkina Faso’s stringent advertising laws.
