Ouagadougou: Reiterating its strong support for the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC) held a press conference on Thursday to condemn the attempted destabilization of the country’s institutions, allegedly orchestrated by former Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, currently in exile in Togo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the coordination emphasized that “Captain Ibrahim Traore is President by historical necessity and by the sovereign will of the Burkinab¨ people.” Labidi Naaba, spokesperson for the Wayiyan community, expressed the CNAVC’s deepest indignation and firm condemnation of the planned destabilization attempt, set for January 3, 2026. The CNAVC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the ideals of the progressive and popular revolution.
CNAVC Secretary General Julien Dabire declared that any threat to President Traore would face the collective resistance of all 25 million Burkinab¨, ensuring that the tragedy of Captain Thomas Sankara would not be repeated. He called for continued mobilization to reclaim the nation’s territory from imperialism, emphasizing the necessity of popular mobilization for revolutionary success.
The press conference also acknowledged the Confederation of Sahel States’ (AES) firm stance, as expressed in solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The AES condemned any infringement on Venezuela’s sovereignty and reaffirmed its commitment to international law and the sovereignty of peoples.
The CNAVC urged the Burkinab¨ people to approach 2026 with strengthened patriotic commitment, vigilance, and civic awareness to support the Progressive and Popular Revolution (RPP) for national sovereignty and state rebuilding.
