Burkina Faso Bans Certain Motorcycles and Tricycles Beyond Fada N’Gourma to Enhance Security

FADA N’GOURMA, Burkina Faso – The Eastern region of Burkina Faso has announced a strict prohibition on the use of Aloba, Sanili, Fortune motorcycles, and tricycles beyond the urban limits of Fada N’Gourma.

According to Burkina Information Agency, issued by Governor Ram Joseph Kafando on April 5, 2024, the ban will be effective from April 8 to October 5, 2024, and applies both day and night across the regional territory, except within Fada N’Gourma itself.

The directive, however, exempts members of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), and individuals who have received specific authorization from a competent authority. The press release further notes that the measure could be extended if deemed necessary for the security of the region.

This decision comes in response to the increased tension and security concerns related to the use of tricycles in areas influenced by terrorist activities in the Eastern region. The governor also issued a warning that violators of this new regulation would face consequences associated with security operations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and order in the face of security challenges.
