Burkina Faso Assumes Leadership of ASECNA’s Ministerial Committee on Transport

Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso has officially taken over the presidency of the Ministerial Committee of the Agency for Safety and Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA), a role it will hold for the next year. This development was finalized at the 73rd session of the committee, which convened this Friday in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the appointment was celebrated with remarks from the Congolese Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and the Merchant Navy, Honoré Sayi, who emphasized that the responsibility conferred upon the Burkinabè Minister of Transport, Anûuyirtole Roland Somda, extends beyond individual leadership to embody the collective duty of Burkina Faso and its President. The session was opened by Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela and saw significant attendance.

ASECNA, which was established in December 1959 and includes 19 member states, has been actively involved in various aviation projects, including the recent announcement in May 2023 to support the rehabilitation of the Bobo-Dioulasso airport. The organization maintains robust relations with Burkina Faso, highlighted by its recent approval of Burkinabè Louis Bakienon as the Executive Secretary of the African and Malagasy Civil Aviation Authorities.
