Burkina Faso Army Destroys Major Terrorist Base in Nassougou, Neutralizes Twenty

NASSOUGOU, EASTERN BURKINA FASO — The Burkinabè army has successfully dismantled a significant terrorist base in Nassougou, Eastern Burkina Faso, as part of a sustained counterterrorism operation. The base, equipped with solar installations and concealed under forest cover, was destroyed on August 13, 2024. Subsequent operations in the area have led to the neutralization of approximately twenty terrorists and the seizure of crucial equipment.

According to Burkina Information Agency, early morning observations on August 13 revealed numerous terrorists emerging from their shelters within Park W. The air force then executed a precision strike, destroying the encampment and disrupting the terrorist group’s activities. This initial success was followed by continued aerial surveillance, revealing the extensive nature of the terrorist operations including several camouflaged tents and huts.

Over the following days, aerial operators conducted several targeted strikes against groups of terrorists attempting to regroup or escape. These strikes were marked by the strategic use of missiles that not only eliminated the terrorists but also destroyed their makeshift shelters in the forest. The operations extended into the early hours of August 19, with further air strikes on key enemy positions.

In addition to the aerial campaign, ground forces also played a critical role. The Mixed March Battalion of the Eastern region conducted an ambush on August 16, effectively neutralizing a group of terrorists and capturing a large cache of military equipment and supplies. These ground operations complemented the aerial assaults, significantly weakening the terrorist foothold in the region.

This coordinated military effort underlines the Burkinabè armed forces’ resolve to eradicate terrorism and restore peace and stability to the region. The operations continue with a focus on eliminating remaining threats and preventing the re-establishment of terrorist bases.
