Burkina Faso, the national army carried out intensive air strikes against terrorist groups in Gomboro and Mentao on Wednesday and Thursday. The operations, aimed at countering terrorist activities in the region, led to the discovery of several casualties and destroyed equipment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the strikes were a response to intelligence reports identifying groups of terrorists in the Mentao area in the Sahel. On December 7, 2023, these terrorists were reportedly holding a meeting under a shed hidden between two baobab trees in the hamlet of Bouiboui. The air units engaged and decimated the gathering, leading to multiple casualties. Ground units from Djibo later found charred remains and destroyed logistics, including weapons and motorcycles, in the aftermath of the strikes.
A similar situation unfolded in the Mouhoun loop. On the evening of December 6, 2023, terrorists were observed fleeing towards their base in Guensen (Gomboro) after passing through the village of Nango Yarce. Air surveillance tracked their movements throughout the night and into the following day.
As the terrorists convened at their command post under a large tree to receive instructions for their next operation, the air units intervened. A missile strike terminated the meeting abruptly, causing the survivors to flee in panic. One of the fleeing individuals reportedly collapsed and died during the escape. Subsequent ground operations led to the recovery of additional weapons, motorcycles, and multiple casualties.
The ongoing military operations across various sectors in Burkina Faso are part of a broader effort to combat terrorist activities and protect the nation’s security. These actions continue as the military seeks to address the threat posed by these groups.
