Burkina Faso Armed Forces Launch 3rd Sports Holiday Camp for Children of Fallen Soldiers

Ouagadougou: The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Moussa Diallo, launched the 3rd edition of the sports holiday camp in Ouagadougou, aimed at benefiting the children of Burkina Faso's fallen soldiers. The camp, organized by the Armed Forces Sports Union (USFA), offers a platform for personal growth, learning, and development through sports, civic engagement, cooking workshops, and first aid training. According to Burkina Information Agency, the camp, which runs from June 22 to July 17, includes several new features, such as a cooking workshop, an expansion to the Kaya garrison, and a focus on young girls. The theme for this edition is "Through sport and civic responsibility: honoring the memory and building the future." Brigadier General Diallo emphasized the military institution's solidarity with the families of fallen soldiers, highlighting the camp's role in instilling values of patriotism, civic responsibility, and mutual respect among the participants. The camp, first c onceptualized in 2011, saw its inaugural edition in 2024. This year's innovations were praised by Brigadier General Diallo, particularly the inclusion of 35 girls and the expansion of activities to the Kaya garrison. Addressing the participants, he encouraged them to embrace discipline and curiosity to gain the most from the scheduled activities. Simon Tiemtoré, the sponsor for the 2026 edition and president of Vista Group, commended the initiative for promoting education, social cohesion, and family support through sports. He highlighted the camp's focus on children of soldiers killed in action, noting its significant human and symbolic importance. Tiemtoré also announced the renewal of his financial support of 15 million FCFA for the 2026 edition and continued support for the educational needs of the program's beneficiaries. He stressed that investing in the youth's education and guidance is a fitting tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for Burkina Faso.
