Burkina Faso and Iran Consider Visa-Free Travel Agreement

OUAGADOUGOU — Burkina Faso and Iran are deliberating the complete abolition of visa requirements between the two nations, signaling a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, as confirmed by a government source in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of State and Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, this development emerged from discussions during Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambèla’s recent friendship and working visit to Iran. "During his stay, His Excellency Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambèla visited industrial units in the fields of energy and defense," reported Ouédraogo. The visit, which occurred from the end of April to the beginning of May 2024 in Tehran, focused on the potential to fully eliminate visa requirements, fostering easier exchanges between the citizens of Burkina Faso and Iran.

This move builds on increasingly strengthened ties between the two countries, spanning economic, diplomatic, and military domains. The relationship was notably advanced during their first joint cooperation session in June 2023, where eight agreements were inked, covering sectors such as energy, urban planning, higher education, and construction.
