Burkina Faso Advocates for Official Days to Celebrate Traditions

OUAGADOUGOU — Master Titinga Fréderic Pacéré, during the Golden Baobab ceremony, announced that he had submitted a request to the government seeking legal days to honor local traditions. On March 6, 2024, the government dedicated May 15 as the day to celebrate traditions and customs across Burkina Faso. This decision follows a decree reaffirming the country’s commitment to secularism.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this move aligns with the recognition given to religious holidays for Muslims and Christians, and aims to similarly respect and validate African traditions. He expressed gratitude to the government, lawmakers, and the head of state for their consideration. “I wish a happy commemoration of this memorable day. For now, that’s enough for me. I asked for two days but perhaps there will be a sequel,” Pacéré noted during an interview at the event, which marked the 6th edition of the Golden Baobab, dedicated to him this year.
