Burkina Faso Activist Advocates for Gender Unity in Fight Against Terrorism

OUAGADOUGOU — Dr. Justine Kielem/Coulidiaty, a prominent figure in several women’s organizations, emphasized the importance of unity between men and women in Burkina Faso’s battle against terrorism during the launch of a reforestation campaign by the National Armed Forces.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Action Group for the Promotion of Education, Training of Women and Young Girls (GAPEFJF), effective cooperation and solidarity are essential for reclaiming territories controlled by terrorists. She illustrated this point using the metaphor of the head and neck, suggesting that just as one cannot function without the other, both genders must work collaboratively to overcome the challenges posed by terrorism. “In a subtle way…we agree and we recognize that the woman is the neck everywhere and that the man is the head. But the head cannot turn without the neck,” Dr. Kielem/Coulidiaty stated at the event, held under the theme ‘Tree and hope’.

Dr. Kielem/Coulidiaty outlined her commitment to supporting the armed forces with as much fervor as they show in their combat duties. She highlighted the strategic role women can play in the fight, advocating for a partnership where women help to strategically reclaim the nation’s 274,300 square kilometers from terrorist control. “We want to tell you all our commitment to supporting you in your boldness and assure you that we will display the same boldness for this noble fight,” she asserted.

She concluded her speech with a promise to support the fighting forces not only within Burkina Faso but also beyond its borders, aiming to transform them into “Kings” of their reclaimed lands. “War has made some Kings, others slaves. We will accompany you beyond Burkina Faso so that you can be Kings,” she declared, reaffirming her dedication to the cause.
