Burkina Faso Achieves Record Cereal Production in 2024-2025 Agricultural Campaign.

Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, chaired the weekly Council of Ministers meeting, where a significant focus was placed on the achievements and plans that are pivotal for the nation’s development.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of State and Government Spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, highlighted that the Council reviewed and adopted several crucial reports, including a landmark project to acquire 500 buses aimed at enhancing urban mobility, particularly for students, at a cost of 44,865,000,000 FCFA excluding taxes.

A major highlight of the session was the report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, which detailed the outcomes of the 2024-2025 wet agricultural campaign. Minister of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombie, reported a surplus cereal production of approximately 6,077,000 tonnes, marking an 18.07% increase from the previous year and 21.4% above the average of the past five years. The government has initia
ted measures to restrict cereal exports and bolster SONAGESS’s capacity to maintain price controls to ensure local accessibility.

The Council also addressed legislative measures from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Minister Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo introduced a preliminary draft law aimed at regulating the tax consultancy profession in Burkina Faso and a draft decree to refine public contract procedures, offering more opportunities to young enterprises.

Additionally, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries put forward three decrees to streamline mining sector approvals and enhance the National Commission for Mines’ functionality. These measures aim to improve oversight and support artisanal mining practices, according to Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba.
