Ouagadougou: The Minister of Economy, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, has pledged his support for the 55 farmers of the Kossoghin market garden located in Tanghin of Ouagadougou’s 4th district. He aims to assist them in sustaining their families through enhanced agricultural production.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Nacanabo assured the farmers of receiving essential resources such as drilling, development, equipment, seeds, and fertilizers. The minister’s commitment was reaffirmed during his visit to the site on April 8, 2025, as part of the initiative for patriotic commitment and civic participation. He commended the farmers’ dedication and also promised food supplies to meet their immediate needs.

The minister emphasized the importance of market gardening in urban areas, highlighting its role in the broader agro-pastoral and fisheries offensive. The Kossoghin site development aligns with the urgent territorial development and resilience project (PUDTR).

PUDTR coordinator, Martial Wilfried Bassol©, explained that the 1.37-hectare site will feature a 10 m3 water tower, six 3 m3 basins, and infrastructure such as a hangar, toilets, and a technical room for electrical installations. A control post for water and forestry officers will also be established for monitoring purposes.

Bassol© further noted that 72.9 hectares along the green belt will be developed for market gardening and tree planting, enhancing the ecological role of the capital. Initial drilling works began in March, with infrastructure expected to be completed by June.

The project, costing 1.8 billion FCFA, receives technical support from the National Company for Land Development and Rural Equipment (SONATER). It encompasses sites in Ouaga 2000, Tampouy, Toubw©ogo, Bonheur-ville, and Tanghin, divided into blocks including Silmiougou and Kossoghin.
