Burkina: Delivery of 191 works to ministries and institutions

191 works were handed over to ministries and institutions this Thursday in Ouagadougou by the Minister in charge of culture, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

“Composed of sculptures, paintings, photographs, bogolan and batik, these unique works, by their techniques and materials of creation, their originality, are the proof of the genius of our creators”, indicated the minister in charge of the culture, Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo.

According to Mr. Ouédraogo, the Burkinabè government adopted in November 2012 a decree on the implementation of the mechanism for the acquisition of works of plastic art to decorate public buildings as well as diplomatic representations.

For him, the first phase of the mechanism was held in 2015 and enabled the department in charge of Culture to acquire one hundred and eighty (180) works for the benefit of thirty-one (31) beneficiary structures.

According to him, the second phase took place in March 2020 and allowed the acquisition of eighty-eight (88) works by fifty-five (55) artists divided between three (03) structures.

Today’s donation is the third phase and has enabled the delivery of 191 works.

“Beyond the embellishment that the contemporaneity of the works brings to your premises, they convey lessons, messages and societal values. This requires that you be henceforth, alongside the technicians of the department in charge of culture and the arts, true cultural mediators for the dissemination of this artistic heritage”, added the Minister, while urging the beneficiaries to take care of these goods as “their creators knew how to produce them well”.

“Now keen on art, I therefore invite you to make these marvels and the values attached to them yours in order to arouse and maintain artistic taste among the occupants and users of your respective administrations.

Let’s think art! Let’s act art! Because art liberates us, art educates us, and art restores the spirit,” he concluded.
