OUAGADOUGOU: An individual was arrested Friday in Ouagadougou, while he was handing over five billion FCFA in cash to soldiers who had pretended to accept his coup plan. Some time ago, an individual approached soldiers of the Burkinabe army with the aim of engaging them in a coup d’état project against the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the information was made public on the evening of Saturday, November 9, 2024, in a report broadcast on the 8 p.m. news on Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina (RTB). The contacted soldiers informed their superiors, who ordered them to play along so that they could capture the instigators and their accomplices.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, as the planner was about to hand over the money to the soldiers, he was arrested by elements of the Cheetah unit, recognizable by their masks bearing the image of the feline. RTB showed a pick-up truck containing around ten suitcases filled with banknotes, estimated at five billion CFA fr
ancs.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time, and his face was blurred in the report. According to public television, the funds have been deposited in the public treasury while waiting to learn more about their origin.

In recent months, several attempts have been foiled to overthrow the regime of President Ibrahim Traoré, who is fully committed to the path of territorial reconquest and national sovereignty. A month ago, former president Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba and former Special Forces commander Major Ahmed Kinda planned to stage a coup with the help of terrorists and foreign powers.
