Burkina: Chinese Red Cross Supports Thomas Sankara University with Health Equipment.

OUAGADOUGOU: The Chinese Red Cross extended its support to the students of Thomas Sankara University (UTS) by donating health equipment during a week dedicated to reproductive health. The initiative aims to enhance the management of sexual and reproductive health among the students.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of the Chinese mission, Chen Daohu, emphasized their commitment to providing medical services, health training, and organizing academic exchanges. The donation, valued at over one million CFA francs, includes essential items such as injectable artemether, alcohol cotton balls, disposable syringes, and screening kits for hepatitis B and syphilis.

Mr. Daohu highlighted ongoing medical services at Tengandogo University Hospital, noting significant activities between March 1, 2024, and October 31, 2024, including thousands of consultations, hospitalizations, and surgical procedures. He expressed the mission’s goal of enhancing disease prevention awareness and improving student health
through these contributions.

Pr Noël Thiombiano, Director General of the National Center for University Works (CENOU), acknowledged the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections as a major concern. He cited statistics indicating significant rates of hepatitis B and C, as well as cases of unwanted pregnancies and post-abortion care, stressing the need to promote sexual and reproductive health rights.

Pr Thiombiano expressed gratitude to the Chinese medical mission for its ongoing partnership with CENOU, which has been instrumental in improving student health over the past two years.
