The President of the Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians of Burkina Faso (ACEBF), Youssouf Kaboré, launched on Tuesday a project to promote and enhance traditional women’s hairstyles, involving the creation of a national directory of models of traditional hairstyles from Burkina Faso.
“Traditionally, the field of hairdressing is full of immense potential. For example, we have the Peulh, Mossi, Gourmantché hairstyle model. In short, each ethnic group has specific female hairstyle models,” said the president of the Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians of Burkina Faso (ACEBF), Youssouf Kaboré.
According to him, the Association of hairdressers and beauticians, taking into account this cultural diversity, wants to play its part by launching the creation of a national directory of traditional hairdressing which will bring together all the hairdressing models of the sixty ethnic groups that include the Burkina Faso.
Youssouf Kaboré was speaking during a press conference held in Ouagadougou on Tuesday March 21, 2023 for the launch of the project.
According to him, the cost of this project is estimated at more than 29 million CFA francs, of which the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund (FDCT) contributes 25 million CFA francs.
To this end, Mr. Kaboré noted that the project aims to identify traditional know-how in the field of women’s hairdressing.
For him, these models to be identified among the bearers of these cultural values will be enriched in creativity with professionals in the field in order to create a national directory of traditional hairstyles.
“The realization of this project will also make it possible to increase the production and dissemination/distribution of traditional hairdressing goods and services on national, regional and international markets and stimulate the adoption of new technologies and the emergence of innovative companies. in the missing or weak links to improve the competitiveness of the field”, he specified.
He says he is reassured that the promotion of this project will help stimulate the supply and demand for traditional hairdressing, job creation and increase the sector’s contribution to the economy and culture.
According to the head of studies and statistics of the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund, Jeans Yves Sawadogo, this project responds to the objectives of the national culture and tourism strategy, in that it highlights a sector which is part priority sectors that were in the shadows.
