Burkina Adopts Decree to Harmonize Remuneration in State Companies

Ouagadougou - The Burkinabe government has adopted a decree to establish a harmonized framework for setting the remuneration of agents in state companies.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the decree "allows us to have a harmonized framework for setting staff remuneration and the methods for determining retirement compensation within state companies." Public social security establishments are also affected by this measure. The government noted "disparities" in staff remuneration across state-owned companies and public social security establishments, highlighting the absence of a general framework governing these remunerations.

The decree follows a recommendation from the 31st session of the General Assembly of State Companies and the conclusions of the General Assembly focused on the approval of the 2022 accounts of the Public Social Security Establishments (EPPS). Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambèla, during a high-level meeting in September 2023, emphasized the need for harmonization after observing significant differences in remuneration among state companies. "There is no reason why, in state-owned companies, remuneration can go from simple to five times or even ten times more. We must work on the harmonization of remuneration in state companies, because these divergences lead to frustrations," he said.

In 2023, 19 state companies presented their balance sheets to the AGM of state companies, achieving a turnover of 1,694.473 billion FCFA in 2022.
