Ouagadougou: The remains of Burkinabe activist Alain Christophe Traor©, known as Alino Faso, were received in Ouagadougou, as observed by AIB at the international airport. The activist’s death in Abidjan, under suspicious circumstances, had already raised significant concern among the Burkinabe community.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the arrival of Alino Faso’s body was marked by a somber gathering that included Burkinabe government officials, family members, friends, and civil society representatives. The atmosphere was one of deep sorrow, with the coffin draped in the national flag, and tributes were paid to the deceased in a silent and emotional reception.
The circumstances surrounding Alino Faso’s death on July 24, 2025, continue to be a topic of contention. The Ivorian judicial authorities described it as a suicide, a theory rejected by the Burkinabe government in a statement released days later. This disagreement led to public demonstrations demanding the return of Traor©’s remains to Burkina Faso.
According to Lianhou© Imhotep Bayala, the successful repatriation of Alino Faso’s remains is attributed to the persistent pressure from the Burkinabe government on Ivorian authorities. Bayala sees this as a crucial step in uncovering the truth behind the activist’s death, emphasizing the need for justice and transparency.
Musician Oscibi Johann expressed gratitude to those involved in securing the repatriation, criticizing attempts to keep the body in C´te d’Ivoire and highlighting the collective effort of the government, civil society, and the Burkinabe people in preserving the dignity of their compatriot.
