Ouagadougou: The Research Section of the 3rd Legion of the National Gendarmerie announced Thursday in Ouagadougou, during a press briefing, the seizure of 1,007 butane gas cylinders intended for illegal repackaging in the Balkuy district of Ouagadougou and the arrest of the alleged perpetrators.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Chief Warrant Officer, Major Aim© Yam©ogo indicated that an operation carried out on June 25, 2025, by the economic and financial unit of the research section of the 3rd Gendarmerie Legion resulted in the seizure of 1,007 butane gas cylinders, including 907 6 kg cylinders, 78 12.5 kg cylinders, 20 38 kg cylinders, and 2 55 kg cylinders. Three alleged perpetrators were arrested in the Balkuy district. These cylinders were illegally repackaged and resold on the market.

The network’s modus operandi involved transferring two 6 kg bottles, costing 4,000 FCFA, into a 12.5 kg bottle. The reconditioned 12.5 kg bottle was then resold on the market for 5,500 FCFA, resulting in a fraudulent profit of 1,500 FCFA per bottle.

Consignment stores in the Patte-d’Oie and Cissin districts, as well as five major restaurants in the capital, were supplied with these reconditioned bottles. The incriminating material seized and the persons accused will be made available to the Public Prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga II High Court for further proceedings, Major Aim© Yam©ogo said.

The president of the Consumer League, Dasman© Traor©, congratulated the National Gendarmerie for dismantling this network while inviting consumers to report cases of fraud. “We must denounce this with supporting evidence, to allow the authorities to stop this hemorrhage which unfortunately benefits neither the State nor consumers,” he added.
