Burgersdorp SAPS Recover Stolen Copper Wire Valued at R50 000

Burgersdorp – In a coordinated effort, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Burgersdorp, along with Transnet security, have successfully recovered stolen copper wire valued at R50,000.

According to South African Police Service, the operation was set in motion after receiving a tip from Transnet security about suspicious activities involving a white KIA Cerato on the Stormberg gravel road. The vehicle was reported to be used in the cutting and loading of contact copper wire. SAPS members promptly responded to the scene, where they found three suspects actively stripping the wire.

During the operation, a 23-year-old suspect was apprehended while his accomplices managed to flee the scene. The police discovered five bundles of approximately 1m copper wire cables inside the vehicle and an additional ten bundles beside the road.

The detained individual is scheduled to appear in court shortly to face charges related to the incident. This recovery highlights the ongoing efforts of SAPS in combating the theft of valuable resources and maintaining public order.
