Building Collapse in Northern India Traps Around 10 People


MEERUT, UTTAR PRADESH — A residential building in the Zakir colony of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed on Saturday, trapping approximately 10 people under the debris, as local rescue efforts are underway.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Meerut division Commissioner Selva Kumari reported that the collapse occurred early on Saturday, and emergency services, including police and firefighters, quickly responded to the scene. The affected building, located in the densely populated Zakir residential colony, had around eight to ten individuals trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue operations are actively proceeding to safely extract those caught under the collapsed structure.



The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in residential areas across India, where building collapses are tragically common due to various factors, including poor construction standards and lack of maintenance. The local authorities are investigating the cause of this collapse while focusing on the immediate task of rescue and relief.
