Katima mulilo: Bright Stars FC secured the Zambezi Regional Second Division Preliminary Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup title on Sunday, defeating Zambezi Sporting Academy 2-0 in the final held at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex. According to Namibia Press Agency, the tournament served as the regional kick-off for the NFA Cup, featuring all 12 NamPort Zambezi Regional Football clubs vying for the title. Bright Stars' triumph was marked by Ponahazo Kamunu's opening goal in the 44th minute, followed by Hillary Lutibezi Tiyeho's decisive goal in the 55th minute. Bright Stars Chairperson Albert Sibeya Simataa expressed satisfaction with the win, highlighting the club's progress from the third division with aspirations to join the Premier League. The team's path to the final was challenging, overcoming Namib Chiefs FC with a 5-3 victory and defeating Black Buffaloes 3-1. In the semifinals, Bright Stars advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout against Shooting Stars, winning 5-4. Zambezi Region's sole NFA-accredited coach, Lennox Kanyehu, who coaches Zambezi Sporting Academy, acknowledged the defeat and vowed to improve in future competitions. Bright Stars FC earned a prize of N.dollars 20,000 in a tournament that took place at the University of Namibia (UNAM) Sports Field and the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex. The Zambezi second division league, which faced delays earlier this year due to budget approval issues, might conclude ahead of the scheduled 15 June 2026. All clubs have two matches remaining, with Bush Bucks leading at 40 points, followed by Shooting Stars and Oryza Sativa, both at 35 points but separated by goal difference. Bright Stars FC is in fourth place with 33 points.
