Bridge Damage Halts Traffic on Key Banfora-Ivory Coast Border Road

BANFORA—Traffic on the vital national road connecting Banfora to the Ivory Coast border has been temporarily halted due to severe damage to a bridge following recent heavy rains.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Ministry in charge of Infrastructure released a statement detailing that the rains on September 8 caused significant damage to the slab bridge located between the Bérégadougou and Banfora crossroads, approximately 8 kilometers from Banfora. This disruption occurred just a day after torrential rains had already impacted the area, forcing a halt in traffic along National Road No. 7 that connects Bobo-Dioulasso to the Ivory Coast border.

The ministry’s press release from September 9, 2024, also informed the public of ongoing efforts to restore traffic and the availability of a diversion route via Banfora-Kiribina-Bérégadougou to the RN07 branch at Bérégadougou crossroads. It urges all road users to adhere to safety instructions while the restoration work is being completed.
