BRICS Summit Kicks Off in Kazan, Russia with Focus on Multilateral Cooperation

KAZAN: The 16th BRICS Summit commenced today in Kazan, Russia, drawing leaders and representatives from 36 nations to discuss collaboration across political, economic, and cultural domains. The summit, held under the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security,” marks a significant event during Russia’s chairmanship of the BRICS group.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the summit’s agenda spans three days, featuring discussions on political and security cooperation, economic and financial strategies, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. Delegates will engage in both narrow and expanded format meetings and are expected to adopt the Kazan Declaration on the final day. Russian President Vladimir Putin will announce the results of these high-level meetings at a press conference on October 24.

Prominent attendees include Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, accompanied by First Lady Zinash Tayachew, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mau
ro Vieira, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Additionally, the President of the BRICS New Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff, and other dignitaries from Venezuela and Sri Lanka are present. The summit also hosts representatives from six international organizations, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The gathering in Kazan underscores the BRICS nations’ commitment to enhancing multilateral cooperation, addressing global challenges, and fostering equitable development across the globe.
