Boys Erroneously Placed In A Girls’ School Get Admission

Mosocho: Two grade 10 learners in Cardinal Otunga Boys High School in Mosocho town, Kisii County who were erroneously placed in a girls' school in Bungoma, have finally been rerouted and admitted to the right school after the matter was resolved. Speaking to the press at Cardinal Otunga Boys High School, the Deputy Principal Academics, Albert Tani, said the two learners had been erroneously placed at Cardinal Otunga Girls School in Bungoma County.

According to Kenya News Agency, the successful review of the placement process was seen as a relief for the parents involved. Tani explained that the resolution of the issue had alleviated the pressure the parents were facing. During the occasion, Tani revealed that 72 of the 82 teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) at Cardinal Otunga High School had undergone a retooling exercise during the school holidays in preparation for the senior school transition.

Tani also mentioned that the school has adequate facilities for the three educational pathways, with almost 70% of the students currently reporting being under the STEM pathway. To address gaps in technical subjects, the school has coordinated with neighboring Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

In a related matter, Admissions Teacher Justus Mauti from Sameta High School in Gucha Sub County spoke about sending a request to the Ministry to review the placement of some learners. These learners had admission letters to the school, but their details were missing from the portal. Mauti urged the Ministry to reconsider the requests for those who had already reported to the school.

Additionally, Evans Ondiba, the Head of Department for Social Sciences at Sameta High School, affirmed that their teachers have been adequately retooled and are fully prepared to teach the grade 10 learners.
