Oniihwa: A 12-year-old boy reportedly drowned in an earth dam at Oniihwa village in the Onayena constituency of the Oshikoto Region on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Oshikoto’s crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, stated that the incident occurred around 17h00. The deceased was identified as Paulus Paulus, a learner at Elombe Combined School.
It is alleged that Paulus was one of five boys from Elombe village in the Onayena area who were fishing in the earth dam. He lost his fishing rod and drowned while attempting to retrieve it. “One of his friends tried to help but failed and went to inform the elders at the house,” reported Ekandjo.
The deceased’s body was retrieved Thursday morning and was transported to the Onandjokwe State Hospital mortuary for a postmortem to be conducted. His next of kin have been informed.
