Ipendo: The chief of Ipendo, NEYA Ouango, gathered a large crowd on Thursday around the “protective fetishes” to celebrate the Day of Customs and Traditions, with a view to reviving the traditional values of the Burkinab¨. In accordance with ancestral rites, water and chickens were offered as sacrifices to the spirits of the ancestors, as a prayer for the protection and blessing of all social classes.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the traditional chief emphasized the sacred and symbolic nature of this day, established by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to revive the traditional values of the Burkinabe people. He called on the sons and daughters of the country to trust their ancestors, to cultivate the spirit of cohesion, forgiveness, and living together, all virtues necessary to bring peace and stability to Faso.
The ceremony was held in the presence of representatives of the head of the Sabou canton, municipal authorities, as well as numerous visitors from Ouagadougou and other localities. The ceremony ended in a climate of satisfaction and collective fervor because the sacrificed chickens and the symbol of “legs in the air” are a sign that the participants had seen their wishes granted and the acceptance of the offerings by the ancestors.
They all returned home filled with faith, gratitude, and renewed hope. The village of Ipendo, which is located about 15 km west of Sabou and crossed from east to west by the RN1, is one of the 14 villages making up the commune.
