Boulkiemde: The Chiefs of Administrative Districts (CCA) and customary authorities of Boulkiemde province convened in Koudougou for a strategic consultation meeting aimed at enhancing the prevention and management of community conflicts. The meeting's primary focus was on fostering collaboration between administrative and customary entities to address tensions related to land, traditional chieftaincy, and natural resource management.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the gathering included prefects, ten chiefs of the canton, technical service heads, and representatives from defense and security forces. This consultation was a follow-up to recommendations from the Provincial Forum of Living Forces held in November 2024. The regional representative of the Food System Resilience Program (PRSA), Fatoumata Kanao, highlighted the program's achievements in the Nando region. These included funding 74 micro-projects with 1.4 billion FCFA, constructing agricultural infrastructure such as market garden boreholes and storage facilities, and distributing inputs to farmers.
The participants concluded the meeting by formulating recommendations to establish a sustainable collaboration framework. These recommendations emphasized adherence to laws on customary succession, involvement of traditional chiefs in land dispute management, creation of a formal consultation framework, initiation of regular departmental meetings between the CCA and customary authorities, and enhancing public awareness of the need for effective collaboration.
Naaba Ziri, the chief of Sourgou, stated that this initiative is essential for strengthening existing collaboration and pooling efforts to find lasting solutions to numerous conflicts. High Commissioner Salimata Ouedraogo/Sanou praised the quality of the discussions and participants' commitment, urging the implementation of recommendations to achieve tangible results on the ground.
