Boulgou: Civic and patriotic education has been officially launched for middle school students in the Boulgou Province. The High Commissioner of the Boulgou Province, Dom¨gb¨gui¨re Constantin Dabire, initiated the program at Riale High School in Tenkodogo, marking the beginning of a provincial effort to instill civic values among intermediate class students.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative is designed to bolster civic-mindedness, discipline, and a sense of civic duty among students. The launch event coincided with a ceremony for raising the national colors, attended by administrative and educational authorities, supervisors, and students.
The program targets students in the sixth, fifth, fourth, second, and first grades from all schools in the province. Hyppolite Ouedraogo, the provincial director of secondary education, stated that the program will run from January 5 to December 31, 2026. It will be conducted in several phases, with the first phase spanning five to six weeks. Sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, either in the morning or afternoon, based on the organizational needs of the schools.
Modules in the curriculum cover civic and patriotic education, morality, discipline, order, and raise awareness about risky behaviors, such as drug use. The curriculum also emphasizes values like solidarity, respect, and cohabitation. Supervisors, from the Defense and Security Forces and civilian personnel, are tasked with implementing the programs and supporting students with pedagogical guidance.
High Commissioner Dabire highlighted that the initiative is aimed at helping students understand their rights and duties as citizens and encourages responsible behavior in both school and social settings. He urged students to actively engage in the sessions and apply the lessons learned. Dabire also praised teachers and mentors for their commitment to imparting civic values, while considering the age and level of the students.
The head of the training center mentioned that activities have started with the initial modules, progressively covering various aspects of the program to ensure comprehensive understanding by the students. The provincial launch of this guidance seeks to enhance the moral and civic education of intermediate students, preparing them to be responsible citizens committed to serving the nation.
