Boulgou: A tunnel collapse claimed the lives of four people and left one seriously injured on Saturday night at the Mogom-Noré gold mining site, about twenty kilometers from Bittou, not far from the Ghanaian border. According to Burkina Information Agency, the tragedy occurred around 9 p.m., while several gold miners were busy mining in the underground galleries. Others had already returned to the yard to process the extracted ores. Alerted, residents, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) quickly mobilized to try to rescue the victims. Unfortunately, emergency services were only able to confirm the deaths of four people. A seriously injured person was urgently evacuated to the Bittou Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) for treatment. The search was still continuing in the galleries when our team left the area.
