Ouagadougou: The Zoaga Basic Education District (CEB) concluded its sports and cultural activities on May 7 and 8, 2026, in a festive and friendly atmosphere. Held under the theme 'Sport and Culture in Schools: Factors of Resilience and Social Cohesion,' this competition, launched on February 2nd at the Pargou school, culminated on Thursday, May 8th, at the Zoaga field, in the presence of administrative, educational, and traditional authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, for 48 hours, the town of Zoaga resonated with sporting and cultural events, marked by strong public participation. The students distinguished themselves in several sporting disciplines, notably football and athletics, as well as in cultural activities such as traditional dance, recitals, theatre, and drawing.
The football final pitted the Bougre team against the Franco-Arab Bougre team. After a hard-fought match, the Bougre team won 3-0 on penalties, thus securing the trophy for the third consecutive time. In the cultural category, the Zoaga 'A' school impressed the jury with its dance performances and its traditional 'made in Burkina' outfit, winning first prize.
The ceremony's patron, Mrs. Nanga, wife of the chief of the Youga canton, expressed her delight at being chosen and reaffirmed her willingness to support such initiatives. Speaking at the event, the representative of the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Zoaga, His Majesty the Saam Naaba, welcomed the guests before congratulating the organizers on the success of the event.
'Sport cannot be separated from culture,' he declared, while wishing the finalist teams good luck. The head of the Zoaga Basic Education District, Adama Bakarga, for his part, welcomed the presence of the authorities and the strong turnout of the local population, who came to demonstrate the importance of sport in children's education. He also expressed his gratitude to the social partners for their multifaceted support, which contributed to the success of the activities.
The drawing contest was sponsored by the food production unit advisor, Pascal B. Toe. Solidarity between basic education districts was also highlighted by the presence of the CCEBs (Community Education Centers) of Zabre 1 and Zabre 2. The strong mobilization of authorities and the local population contributed to creating a warm and encouraging atmosphere, thus reinforcing the spirit of social cohesion promoted by the ceremony.
Located on the border with Ghana, the Zoaga CEB intends to continue its efforts to promote sport and culture in schools.
