Bougouriba: 80 Bags Of Blood Collected As Part Of The “Dªmª Sira” Campaign

Ouagadougou: The city of Diebougou hosted, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, within the premises of the High Commission of the province of Bougouriba, a blood donation operation organized as part of the national campaign called "Dªmª Sira", or "path of solidarity".

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative aims to bolster blood product reserves to support patients in need within healthcare facilities. Given the growing need for blood in hospitals, particularly for treating anemia, this activity is considered timely by health officials. Representing the chief medical officer of the Diebougou health district, Dr. Steve Somda emphasized the critical importance of this action.

"This activity responds to an urgent and pressing need. Blood is essential in the management of anemia cases. In our health district, we receive many consultations and, out of about ten consultations, particularly among children, nearly three require a blood transfusion. This shows the scale of the need," he explained.

The people of Diebougou responded massively to the call, demonstrating their commitment to solidarity and support for vulnerable individuals. Among the donors, Laty Rock Dabire, a regular at blood drives, shared his motivations. "For me, donating blood is a noble act. Even before saving another life, you save yourself, because blood donation contributes to improving health. You never know, one day you might need someone else's blood," he confided.

The operation was carried out in strict compliance with health standards. Daouda Kone, a nursing and obstetrics engineer and head of the blood collection department at the Gaoua Regional Blood Transfusion Center, outlined the conditions and steps of the process. According to him, the donor must be in good health, at least 18 years old, and weigh at least 50 kilograms. The process includes registration and vital signs measurement, a medical interview, blood collection, and finally, a snack.

At the end of the operation, eighty bags of blood were collected. The Secretary General of the Bougouriba province, Ms. Zenabo Kabore/Diallo, representing the High Commissioner, praised the strong mobilization of the constituted bodies, the defense and security forces, students and the various socio-professional groups. "We commend the organization of this blood donation campaign and congratulate all those who voluntarily agreed to donate blood to save lives," she said.

As a reminder, the 'Dªmª Sira' campaign, launched on November 14, 2025, by the governor of the Dj´r´ region, runs until January 31, 2026. It includes several activities, such as awareness caravans and fundraising drives, which have already taken place or are currently underway.
