Bougouriba: 127 Catechists from the Diocese on Spiritual Retreat in Pharyago

Pharyago: The parish of Saint John the Evangelist in Pharyago hosted the annual spiritual retreat for catechists of the Diocese of Diébougou from February 10 to 13, 2026. For four days, 127 catechists from various parishes and villages throughout the diocese participated in a time of prayer, teaching, and fellowship aimed at strengthening their pastoral commitment. According to Burkina Information Agency, the retreat was focused on spiritual renewal and capacity building, aiming to restore vigor and pastoral skills to the catechists who are essential collaborators of the Catholic Church at the community level. A key feature of the retreat was a health conference led by Father Simplice Somé, an anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist. He provided guidance on health practices, emphasizing hygiene, early detection, and regular medical follow-ups, encouraging catechists to promote good health practices in their communities. The retreat concluded with a Eucharistic celebration led by Father Simplice Somé, which served as a moment to express gratitude for the blessings and graces received during the catechetical year and the retreat itself. During the Mass, Father Bertrand Méda, the diocesan chaplain for catechists, presented recommendations from the Ministry of Catechists. These recommendations included establishing health insurance for catechists, providing care for the sick and retired, and promoting entrepreneurial training. Father Hilaire Hien, the parish priest of Pharyago, expressed his satisfaction with the community's role in hosting the event, viewing the retreat as a catalyst for inspiring vocations among catechists in the regions of Bondigui and Dolo. The event concluded with a communal meal shared with the parish faithful, fostering an atmosphere of unity and hope as participants prepared to return to their local communities.
