Boucle du Mouhoun Forces Neutralize GSIM Executive Hassane Idrissa Boly and 26 Associates

BOUCLE DU MOUHOUN – Hassane Idrissa Boly, a key operational executive of the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM) in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, along with 26 of his colleagues, was neutralized on February 20, 2024, by the Combatant Forces. This significant operation came as a response to the terrorists’ attempt to obstruct the “reconquest of Douroula” operation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, on the day of the incident, terrorist forces engaged in a confrontation with the patriots, aiming to halt their progress. The clash took place between Magnimasso and the Léry bridge, also known as the Thomas Sankara bridge, leading to the death of 27 individuals from the GSIM, including Boly, who was approximately 33 years old.

Boly, who had been involved in terrorist activities since 2019, was significantly responsible for the blockade of Nouna town and the displacement of several villages in the Kossi and Banwa provinces. In 2020, he orchestrated multiple attacks against the Security and Defense Forces (FDS) and civilians from a base in Kinsèrè, within the Barani commune. His promotion to an operational leader was a testament to his involvement in supporting terrorist factions operating east of the Mouhoun River.

The Kinsèrè base, recognized as one of the largest in the Kossi province forest, was a critical point for GSIM operations. The elimination of Boly is hailed as a pivotal victory for the Combatant Forces, which remain dedicated to the liberation of territories across Burkina Faso, especially within the Boucle du Mouhoun region plagued by terrorist activities. The neutralization of Boly and his group is expected to significantly weaken the terrorist presence in the area, contributing to the ongoing efforts to secure and liberate the locality from terrorist influences.
