Boromo Prisoners Offer Financial Aid and Volunteer for Anti-Terrorism Efforts

BOROMO – Inmates at the civil prison of Boromo in Balé Province have made a notable contribution to Burkina Faso’s fight against terrorism by donating 85 thousand FCFA to the Fund of Patriotic Support, and expressing a willingness to join the front lines.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the prisoners of the Boromo remand and correction center (MACB) displayed solidarity in the national effort to reclaim territory from terrorists. They presented their financial donation to the High Commissioner of Balé province, Ibrahim Boly. Additionally, in a meeting attended by the detention center’s director and the chief penitentiary security inspector, Adama Sanon, the inmates conveyed their desire to enlist in the ranks of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), contingent on receiving necessary authorizations.

Inspector Sanon lauded the inmates for their patriotic contribution to support the defense and security forces and the VDP, despite their incarceration. Similarly, High Commissioner Boly commended the prisoners for their gesture, which he said reflects their awareness of the country’s challenges. He emphasized that this initiative should inspire Burkinabés living in freedom who have not yet contributed to the patriotic support fund.

The receipt handover was witnessed by several dignitaries including the general secretary of the province, Salimata Ouédraogo, the prefect of Boromo, Esaïe Bamogo, and various MACB officials. This act follows a precedent set in February 2023, when residents of the civilian prisons of Ziniaré and Kongoussi collectively contributed 68 thousand FCFA to the same fund.
