Boromo Half Marathon Set to Attract 100 Professional Runners

Bal©: Around 100 professional runners are expected at the 2nd edition of the Boromo Half Marathon. The Boromo City Half Marathon Organizing Committee took stock of preparations for the organization of the second edition during a press conference in Boromo on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This edition will be held on the theme: 'Sport, a factor of social cohesion in the Bale province.'

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the organizing committee, Iliass© Dianda, announced that the sporting event is scheduled for Saturday, May 31. Around 100 professional runners are expected in addition to amateurs. The marathoners will cover 21 km, including about ten straight lines toward Boromo, with a four-lap circuit inside the town. The finish line is planned in front of CELPAC, where an entertainment podium and a road safety awareness session will be held by the ONASER team.

Several innovations have been incorporated to encourage the participation of professional and amateur runners at the local level. The committee aims to succeed in its organizational challenge, just as it did in the previous edition. The main prizes are also on the rise. These prizes will be awarded to the top five finishers in the women's and men's categories, ranging from 200,000 CFA francs to 15,000 CFA francs. Special prizes will also be given for the best resident runner in the Bal© province, the oldest runner, the first FDS and VDP, and the resilience prize. In total, approximately one million CFA francs will be distributed to the top finishers.

The organizers named the winner's prize "Sama d'or" or golden elephant, in reference to the province's symbol, the elephant, hence the name Elephant City. The honorary president of the Anvikultur association, Eli Biti©, stated that this marathon celebration in Boromo will be a success. To ensure this, the organizing committee has received support from local administrative authorities, corporate entities, and individuals. Defense and security forces were called upon to ensure the safety of the race, property, and people.

However, Mr. Biti© appealed to people of good will to support this unique sporting event in the region to develop a framework for young people through sport, a space for cohesion, and visibility for promoting the Boromo destination in light of the cultural and tourist potential of the city. The honorary president thanked all those who have supported the Boromo City Half Marathon since its first edition and invited the population of the Boromo municipality to participate in the activities.
