Windhoek: A book of condolences for the late Ovambanderu Traditional Authority (OTA) senior councillor, Gerson Kunomundu Katjirua, has been opened at his family residence in Windhoek. The residence is located at Erf 223, Ondundu Street in Wanaheda. Katjirua, affectionately known as Mutize, passed away in the capital on Sunday following a short illness.
According to Namibia Press Agency, OTA spokesperson Uazenga Ngahahe stated that the established protocol is in place, and the condolence book is available for everyone to pay their respects to the late leader, both within the Ovambanderu community and the broader nation. Ngahahe urged the Ovambanderu protocol committee to be prepared to receive various dignitaries arriving to honor the late senior traditional councillor.
Ngahahe remarked, "We are mourning a historic figure who made significant contributions to the development of the Ovambanderu community and other communities. We anticipate a large number of people at the residence, and therefore, we must ensure all necessary arrangements are in order."
Additionally, the spokesperson announced that condolence books have also been opened at various Ovambanderu commandos across the country. He requested that dignitaries, high-ranking government officials, and community leaders communicate with the authority's protocol team in advance. Ngahahe also mentioned that, in accordance with protocol, specific attire is to be worn during the mourning period for leaders, emphasizing the importance of adhering to this to honor the late leader appropriately.
As of now, funeral arrangements for Katjirua have yet to be announced.
