Lamu, Kenya—In anticipation of El Nino rains, candidates from the Boni area taking the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams have been moved to Faza Primary and Mokowe Arid Zone Primary Schools.
According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke during a school tour in the Hindi area, 60 candidates from the Bargoni area will sit for their exams at Mokowe Arid Zone due to pre-existing contingency plans.
Ronoh also noted that robust security measures are in place across the county. Candidates from Milimani, Barsuba, and Mangai were airlifted to Faza Primary by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). “Adequate plans have been made to ensure that all candidates from the wider Boni area are housed and fed throughout the exam period,” said Ronoh. He added that the national government is committed to ensuring a 100% transition rate for all students across the county.
The County Commissioner highlighted a significant reduction in dropout rates related to early marriages and pregnancies, noting only one reported case this year of a student likely to miss exams. Lamu Central Deputy County Commissioner Charles Kitheka urged security officers to uphold the integrity of the national exams. Lamu Central Sub County Director of Education Rukia Abdalla called for both public and private candidates to be accommodated, ensuring a smooth examination process over the three-day period.
