Bomet, Kenya — The Dr. Laboso Mother and Child Wellness Centre, a Sh300 million medical facility in Bomet, is approaching its official launch, slated for commissioning by the nation’s Head of State in the upcoming two months.
According to Kenya News Agency, the construction is meeting the anticipated deadlines, with the contractor finalizing the remaining aspects of the project. Prof. Barchok provided these details on Wednesday during an inspection visit, alongside the County Assembly Committee on Health led by Stephen Chang’morik, the Member of County Assembly for Longisa.
The wellness center, strategically located along the Mulot-Bomet highway, is expected to alleviate the patient influx at the Longisa County Referral Hospital by offering advanced medical services, including MRI and CT scans. The governor projected that the new facility would not only serve health needs but also bring business opportunities for the local community due to increased visitors seeking medical services.
The facility is named in honor of the late Dr. Joyce Laboso, the second Governor of Bomet and a former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, celebrating her legacy.
In a related development, Prof. Barchok commended the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Longisa for its significant impact on the region’s health and economic sectors. His remarks came during a reception for 100 new nursing students at the KMTC Longisa Campus, where he attended a ceremony with Campus Principal Alice Oriera.
Despite challenges, particularly in terms of space, the governor assured that the county administration is committed to supporting the institution, including the allocation of additional staff to mitigate human resource constraints as permanent solutions are sought.
