Bomet Governor Announces Scholarships for 250 Students from Underprivileged Families

Bomet, Kenya — The County Government of Bomet has pledged to offer full educational scholarships to 250 students from financially challenged backgrounds. This commitment aims to encourage academic excellence among candidates currently undertaking national examinations.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative will select the ten most needy students from each of the 25 wards within the county to receive a complete scholarship for their secondary education. The announcement came as Governor Barchok conveyed his best wishes to class six candidates sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment and those taking the final Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams.

Governor Barchok emphasized that poor performance due to a lack of school fees should not deter students from striving for success, citing the availability of other sponsorship programs from the national government, corporations, NGOs, and individual philanthropists. He pointed out that maintaining high discipline standards and steering clear of detrimental activities such as alcohol, drug abuse, and early sexual relations would be critical for candidates to qualify for these scholarships.

Reaffirming the constitutional right to education, Governor Barchok reassured that the government is committed to the prompt allocation of funds for free primary and secondary education. Moreover, he guaranteed that vocational training colleges would be accessible to those not proceeding to secondary schools or universities, where they would also be eligible for student loans.

In addition, the governor advised candidates against any form of examination malfeasance, stating that academic performance would not be the sole criterion for scholarship selection, thereby encouraging a fair and merit-based allocation of the educational support.
