Bomet County Set to Open Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Wellness Centre

Nairobi: Bomet County Government is set to have the newly built Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Wellness Centre officially commissioned for use in a bid to step up healthcare services in the region, named after former governor Dr Joyce Laboso, the new health facility on the outskirts of Bomet town is poised to be a game changer in maternal health and general wellness for mothers and children from the county and beyond.

According to Kenya News Agency, a spot check revealed that already, some of the equipment needed to operationalize the facility are being installed and tested in readiness for the launch at a later date. The Mother and Child Wellness Centre is a legacy project being championed by Governor Prof Hillary Barchok with the aim of providing key referral medical services to Bomet residents and patients from surrounding counties.

It is also projected that once operational, the new facility will go a long way in easing the pressure on the Longisa County Referral Hospital and other outlying medical centres, thereby ensuring the quality of healthcare for residents and visiting patients. Ahead of a planned official commissioning by President William Ruto soon, senior staff from the County Department of Health Services, led by County Executive Committee Member (CEC) Dr Joseph Sitonik and the Chief Officer (CO) Felix Langat, are already conducting inspections at the facility to assess the hospital’s readiness to serve the members of the public.

The county government of Bomet and the national government will jointly equip the ultra-modern 250-bed capacity facility. During his earlier visit to the county, President Ruto promised to support the efforts of the County Government by availing state-of-the-art equipment that will give the facility capacity to ameliorate healthcare services in the region.
