La Paz: The president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Bolivia, Oscar Hassenteufel, announced that former President Evo Morales may register as a candidate for the general elections on August 17 if he aligns with a legally constituted political party and submits the necessary documents.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hassenteufel clarified during a press conference that Morales’ candidacy approval will be contingent on a subsequent assessment by the TSE based on existing regulations and laws. He stated, “If he appears with a party and presents the documents that must be presented, he will be registered, and at the time, it will be the Electoral Tribunal that will rule on whether he is authorized or not.”
In response to recent demonstrations by Morales’ supporters, Hassenteufel emphasized their right to protest but stressed the importance of maintaining peace during such activities. The deadline for registering candidacies is set for May 19, with the official list of qualified candidates expected on June 6.
