WINDHOEK: MultiChoice Namibia’s locally produced film, Bokwagter, has received two nominations for the upcoming 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), scheduled to take place on November 2 in Lagos, Nigeria. The film, produced in collaboration with Ndapunikwa Films, has been recognized in the Achievement in Visual Effects and Best Young/Promising Actor categories.

According to Namibia Press Agency, MultiChoice Namibia Managing Director Roger Gertze expressed pride in the film’s international recognition, noting the significance of the AMAAs, which have been held annually since 2005. Celebrating its 20th edition, the awards ceremony will be hosted at the Balmoral Center in Ikeja, Nigeria, and aims to honor the industry’s leading talents.

Bokwagter tells the story of three young orphaned brothers living with their grandparents on a farm, where they must defend themselves and their livelihood from a group of bandits. The film features performances from Tangi Nepolo, William Dias-who is nominated in the young
/promising actor category-along with Mathew Haipare and Megameno Shanika. Gertze highlighted the film’s achievements as evidence of Namibian stories reaching a global audience.

The local production is part of MultiChoice Namibia’s initial phase of its local content project, underscoring the potential for Namibian films to gain international acclaim. Gertze concluded with best wishes for the Bokwagter team as they prepare for the prestigious event.
