OUAGADOUGOU: The Bogodogo University Hospital Center (CHU-B) inaugurated its first-ever sports and board games day to enhance social cohesion among its staff. The initiative, led by the hospital’s social unit, aims to provide a platform for hospital employees to engage in recreational activities and alleviate workplace stress.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Guillaume Nana, president of the CHU-B cell office, emphasized the challenges hospital workers face in managing stress due to their constant interaction with patients. He highlighted the significance of the event, which is designed to encourage staff to step out of their routine work environment and foster social ties through sports and games.

The two-day event, themed “Sport, an ally for health and social cohesion,” features various activities, including a popular cross-country race, a shopping street, a football match between surgical and medical departments, and board games such as pétanque, scrabble, cards, and lido. Nana pointed out that e
ngaging in sports can improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles and bones, and prevent mental health issues. Additionally, he noted that team sports promote social inclusion, collaboration, and solidarity.

Dr. Adama Roger Karambiri, a nephrologist at CHU-B and sponsor of the event, expressed his support for the initiative, noting that healthcare professionals often neglect physical activity. He viewed the event as an opportunity for staff to engage in sports collectively.

Seydou Nombré, Director General of CHU-B, commended the social unit’s efforts to enhance social cohesion within the hospital. He encouraged the continuation of such initiatives to strengthen collaboration and solidarity among CHU-B staff members.

The event was held under the patronage of Seydou Nombré and co-sponsored by Pr André Samadoulougou, Pr Charlemagne Ouédraogo, Pr Christian Napon, Pr Joëlle Zabsonré/Tiendrébeogo, and Dr. Adama Roger Karambiri.
