Body of Missing Child Found at Henties Bay

Erongo, Namibia - The Namibian Police Force in the Erongo Region have confirmed the recovery of one of the two children who went missing at sea last weekend at Henties Bay. The incident occurred while the children were swimming with others.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Commander of the Erongo Community Affairs Subsection of NamPol, the body was discovered offshore at Grysduin, approximately six kilometers north of Henties Bay, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as 11-year-old Marie France Brockerhoff Ngo Mbock.

Police reports reveal that the two children presumably drowned between 14h00 and 15h00 on 15 December. They had left their home to swim with friends between 12h00 and 13h00 that day. A strong wave is said to have swept them away while they were in the water, and while other children managed to escape, the two girls did not.

The body of Marie France Brockerhoff Ngo Mbock will be transported to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for an autopsy. The search efforts for the other missing girl, who is also presumed drowned, are ongoing. The next of kin of the deceased have been notified.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
